Sherwood is very well written and developed. The read is more of a historical fiction because men are “my Lord” and women are “my Lady”. I enjoy the many adventures and close calls this story offers.

This book shows that women can be brave too/5(). Sherwood was a unique retelling with a Sherwood book, character-driven tale at its heart. Spooner’s version of the Robin Hood origin story held real soul and conflict as it centered around a young woman grappling with grief and fighting the class of gender in 4/5(65).

Sherwood isn't a retelling of the Robin Hood tale, as much as a complete reimagining. Godwin places Robin in an England quickly being subjugated by the Normans, following the Battle of Hastings. Now that Bernard Cornwell has become the historical novel author de jour, I often wonder if he would have existed at all without Parke Godwin/5.

Containing eight short stories (and therefore being a relatively quick read), the stories are arranged chronologically, beginning with the night Robin Hood was born, and extending two stories beyond his death, including one about grandchild of Robin Hood and another rather funny one about an artificial intelligence that is programmed to believe he is Robin Hood/5.

Sherwood was published in and brought a new perspective to the traditional Robin Hood image and genre/5(14). That being said, other parts of the book were great.

Shadows of Sherwood is set in a near-future fantasy world that has both technology and magic prophecies as major parts of tbe plot (although it can be argued that the magic is merely self-fulfilling legend as the downtrodden believers of that lore use it to emotionally galvanize their rebellions), so it wasn't quite what I was asking for in /5(29).

Steeped in tradition but infused with feminism and political concerns, a Robin Hood for a new audience.
